To cap off a busy and fun first week of K4, we ended with our first Foodie Friday snack project. Mary-Dale demonstrated how to make our school bus cookies and then we moved as a team until the last tasty piece was added. In this fun and tasty activity, we practiced our vocabulary skills, following direction, fine motor, counting, and butter knief safety. I wonder what we'll cook up next?

Hello Families,
Just thought I would pop in with a quick note about the upcoming school year. I am attaching a PDF document called "About Our Classroom" to my teacher page that briefly explains a few important parts of our classroom this year.
A couple important notes about this upcoming school year is:
- School day will run from 8:30-2:00, Monday to Friday. Arrival begins at 8:15 and dismissal is promptly at 2:00.
- Outdoor classroom - beginning the last week of September we will start venturing outdoors more. Please dress children appropriately and please, please, please, please!!! pack an extra set of clothing for your child that can be stored in the classroom as we will be going outside, rain or shine.
Families are also strongly encouraged to drop in at the school the week of August 28th to pick up and fill out the K4 registration forms. We would like to confirm the numbers and names of students enrolling in the K4 program this school year. If you can not come to the school for your registration form, please contact the front desk and cofirm your child's enrollment with our lovely Secretary, Lana, or our Admin, Lacey. Please be sure to confirm the correct spelling of your child's name and their birth date. You can also email me your information at Alisha.sweezey@nbed.nb.ca
Apologies for the bossiness, however, as I transition from summer vacation to back to school mode, I am currently in the print-cut-laminate-and-label-all-the-things zone and I would love to have everything your student will need in our classroom ready and waiting for them :)

What a great day at the Zoo. The kids had a blast and the weather was perfect. Thank you to all the parent volunteers that joined our class and helped wrangle the free range monkeys.

Outdoor education means going outside rain or shine. There are so many learning opportunities to be had outdoors, like taking risks and challenging the limits of our clothes. Here are some students having a ball jumping in our "swamp." They are dressed warmly beneath their Muddy Buddy (waterproof wet suit), pant legs are securely pulled over their rubber boats, and some have their hoods pulled up over their heads. The children are not discouraged from playing in the water, rather, we spend a lot of time talking about safety ("the log is slippery when it's wet"), establishing rules ("don't throw mud at anyone's face"), and dialoguing each senario ("how is the water getting in your boot?"). Some learn quickly that water gets into their suits in sneaky ways and then they are left feeling cold, wet, and uncomfortable. Guiding the students to come to these conclusions themselves is more meaningful than me telling them what the problem is. However, there are some days when you just gotta forget it all and go for it, which is why it is super important to pack an extra set of clothing for your child to change into daily.

The kids have been quite adventurous these days. Climbing the side of the playground structure is the newest challenge for our crew. Some have been doing it for awhile and some are just finally reaching the top. What's interesting about this video is that the first child climbs the structure and rounds the corner easily. Both children are the same age, height, and build, but Mrs. Sophia just isn't there yet. We talk a lot about safety and check in with eachother daily when doing risky activities and from my conversation with Sophia, she was scared and in her words, "not ready yet, but I can jump down."
