The Eel Ground Mixed Soccer team played two games recently. The first year squad traveled to millerton where they were defeated 5-0. the team were down just 1-0 at the half led by strong goaltending by Ashton Ward. Coach Hawkes was please with the teams play in their first match. In their second game the team scored their first goal i a 5-1 loss to NSEE. Andrea Ward scored to become the answer to the trivia question,"Who scored the first goal in Eel Ground School's Soccer history. The squad has two more games this week.

The Eel Ground School students and staff would like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. Our school will be closed tomorrow (Friday) and reopening Tuesday morning. We hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend with family and friends

potatoesEel Ground School has a new fundraiser. We are currently selling 50 pound bags of new potatoes for just $10.00. All money raised goes towards school projects and at this price they will go fast. You can drop by the school or call us at 627-4615.

Today marks the debut of our schools newest team. The Eel Ground School soccer team kicks off its first season in the Middle School Boys Tier 2 Soccer League at home today. They will be hosting Harkins at the ballfield at 4pm today. The team is coached by Mr. Hawkes and have been busy these last few weeks getting ready for the season. They will be competing against Blackville, NSER,Nelson,Millerton and   Espenoopetitj.This will be the first of 3 home games for the Eagles and we hope to see a good crowd cheering them on.

The Eel Ground School Student Council elected their executive this week. Grade 8 student Emma Ward  will be the 2011-2012 Student President. The Vice President is Amethyst Murphy. Council are busy planning the first school dance which will be held Thursday September 29th from 4pm until 6pm. The council are also selling Student Council cards for $5.00 each or $10.00 per family. With the card you save one dollar on the admission price to school dances, which saves you $6.00 during the year.

 The elementary cross-country runners have participated in the Nelson and Gretna Green meets and did great. They are practising every day at noon hour and will make our school proud at the meet next Wednesday in Blackville.

The Miramichi Kinsmen and School District 16 are pleased to accept film entries for the first annual Kin Film Festival.  All School District 16 students are invited to participate.  Films can be submitted in one of two categories: Open and The Kinsmen Category.  The top 10 films in each category will be screened on May 7th, 2011 at Miramichi Empire Studio 5.  Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded for the winners in each category.   Visit the Kin Film Fest page for more information.

John Kershaw, the department of education's deputy minister in the province of New Brunswick, toured Eel Ground School this week in a series of visits to first nations schools in the province. Mr. Kershaw toured the school to learn about the programs and resources that band operated schools have. The department of education and band operated schools have been working on a number of projects to increase student and teacher resources as well as initiating professional opportunities for staff to strengthen literacy and numeracy programs.
